Dream. Believe. Achieve.

Outdoor learning

**Vision Statement:**

"At Bryn Celyn Primary we work to provide a dynamic and enriching learning environment where the great outdoors is an integral part of our educational journey. Our commitment is to provide every pupil with opportunities to explore, discover, and connect with the natural world, fostering a lifelong love for learning and a deep sense of commitment to protecting the environment."

Core Principles:

1. Holistic Education: We believe that learning goes beyond the classroom, encompassing academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Outdoor learning complements traditional teaching methods, providing a well-rounded education.

2. Inclusivity: We are dedicated to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, have access to outdoor learning experiences that are safe, accommodating, and empowering.

3. Environmental guardianship: We instill in our pupils a profound respect for nature and a commitment to preserving and protecting the environment. Through hands-on experiences, they become responsible guardians of our planet.

Key Components:

1. Outdoor Classrooms: We will create dedicated outdoor learning spaces equipped with  resources to facilitate lessons in subjects such as science, math, and literacy and arts.

2. Nature Trails: We will establish nature trails on our school grounds, providing opportunities for pupils to explore local ecosystems, identify flora and fauna, and engage in outdoor science experiments.

3. Gardens: Maintaining gardens on our site will offer pupils the chance to learn about plant life cycles, sustainable gardening practices, and healthy eating habits. These spaces will serve as outdoor classrooms for science and nutrition lessons.

4. Wildlife Observation: We will encourage pupils to observe and document local wildlife, fostering an understanding of ecosystems and the interconnectedness of all living beings.

5. Adventure and Play: Playgrounds and adventure areas will be designed to stimulate physical activity, creativity, and problem-solving. These spaces will be incorporated into daily routines to promote healthy development.

Teacher Training:

We will invest in professional development to equip our teachers with the skills and knowledge required for effective outdoor instruction. They will learn how to integrate outdoor experiences into the curriculum and provide guidance on safety and risk management.

Parent and Community Engagement:

We will actively involve parents and the local community in supporting outdoor learning initiatives, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for our pupils' education and well-being.

Assessment and Evaluation:

We will develop a framework for assessing and evaluating the impact of outdoor learning on student development, ensuring that it aligns with our educational goals and vision.

Partnerships:

We will seek partnerships with local environmental organisations, parks, and community resources to enhance our outdoor learning opportunities and provide unique experiences for our pupils.

By embracing this vision for outdoor learning, we aim to inspire curiosity, nurture a sense of wonder, and empower our pupils to become responsible, lifelong learners who are deeply connected to the natural world and their community.
