Context for Learning.

Autumn 1 and 2 .

Long, Long Ago - Transport.

Our context for Autumn Term 1 is 'Long, Long Ago - Transport'. We are going to be learning about various modes of transport and looking at how transport has changed over time. Our role play area is a Space Station/Gorsaf Gofod. We will be learning about the history of Fire Engines and The Great Fire of London and visiting Roath Fire Station. We are all very excited about this context!.

Spring 1

Proud to be Welsh

Our context for Spring Term 1 is 'Proud to be Welsh'. We are going to be learning about Pentwyn and Pendine and comparing similarities and differences between the two places. We will be going on a walk around Pentwyn and recording what buildings we can see. We can't wait to plan and create an iMovie all about Pentwyn. We will also be learning about the Six Nations, the Welsh rugby team and the Principality Stadium. We will be studying the artist Gayle Rogers who is well known for her art work of famous Welsh landmarks and for the last week of term we will be cooking and tasting traditional Welsh food. Our role play area for this half term is 'Tea by the Sea/Tê ar lan y môr' which is Mrs Gray-Thomas' Mum's cafe in Pendine. Group 2 will be attending Forest School sessions once a week this half term, and they can't wait!

Spring 2

Tomorrow's World - The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.

Our context for Spring Term 2 is 'Tomorrow's World - The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'. We are going to be basing our learning around the story of 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'. To kick start the context we will be going on a trip to 'Techniquest' to explore the STEM activities and to watch a 'Splendiferous Science' show based on Roald Dahl books, which is a fantastic link to Curriculum Cymreig. We are going to be learning lots of skills such as using speech marks, synonyms for 'said' and describing good and bad characters to help us create our own version story. We will continue our Welsh learning about the weather and clothes but also include colours of clothing and the seasons. We will be learning about estimating and measuring length and weight and partitioning numbers in our mathematics and numeracy lessons. We are also very excited to be creating our own 'Sea Scape' music pieces. Our role play area will continue to be 'Tea by the Sea/Tê ar lan y môr' but Year 2 have decided that they would like to create a large Lighthouse and some seagulls and even a basket on a rope to include in there, just like in the story 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'.
