    Return to School January 2021

Dear Parents                                                                                   Friday 18th December 2020

You may have already seen in the media that Welsh Government and Local Councils have made announcements regarding the return to school in January 2021.

All schools will use online learning at home for the first week back Monday 4th – 8th January.  This is because of the high levels of Covid 19 in Cardiff.  The Inset Day planned for the 4th has been cancelled and will be moved to later on in the year.  Therefore home learning will be available for the children from Monday 4th.

Children should be able to come back to school on Monday 11th January, however this is subject to change, dependent on any further instructions from Welsh Government or the Local Authority.

The school will be running a Hub childcare facility for children of Keyworkers from Wednesday 6th January – Friday 8th January from 8.30-3.15.

If you need to access the Hub please let Mrs Keys know by Tuesday 5th January 2pm.

I appreciate that this is a change from the expected start of next term, if you need any support please contact the school through the following email address - StaffB5@hwbcymru.net

Thank you for your ongoing support and I wish you a restful holiday.

    Many thanks

    Mrs Keys

  • Childcare provision December 2020

    Mon 14 Dec 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have just received notification from Welsh Government that we are required to provide on-site provision for children of key workers, from Wednesday 16th-Friday 18th December during school hours.

If all parents/carers of a child fit into any of these categories then you will be able to apply for on-site provision for these three days.

The current rates of transmission of COVID-19 are a huge concern, we received the following message from Paul Orders (Chief Executive, Cardiff Council)

‘In the last two weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan has risen by nearly 90% and continues to increase. In the week up to 8th December 2020, there was a record number of 449 cases per 100,000 population in Cardiff. This is unprecedented and well above the Welsh average. The number of positive tests in the city has also risen further to 18.2%.

If the current trend continues Public Health colleagues anticipate that these numbers will increase even further, potentially exceeding 1000 cases per 100,000 of the population before Christmas.

This will be a far higher recorded rate than anything we have experienced to date. The situation is stark and partners are working on emergency response measures as a matter of urgency.

Therefore, please try to use this offer of school provision as a last resort, if you have safe alternatives for childcare please use these.  Keeping our numbers low in school will enable us to keep any close contacts and self-isolation over Christmas, if required, to a minimum.

Provision in school will be blended learning and any children attending will be organised in key stage groupings, so we will be mixing the class bubbles.

Application for a place must be made by Tuesday 15th December by 10am  to enable us to organise our plans ready for Wednesday morning.

    Many thanks Mrs Keys

  • Letter about end of Term for pupils 11.12.2020

    Fri 11 Dec 2020

    Dear Parents

As you may be aware in the last week Cardiff has seen a large rise in the number of Covid 19 cases.  Due to this, the Local Authority has decided to close schools early.  The last day of school will now be Tuesday the children will be able to access home learning through their Hwb accounts for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

If you need to contact school staff during this time, please use this email address StaffB5@hwbcymru.net

Please make sure you let the school know if your child shows symptoms or tests positive for Covid 19, even during the holidays, using the email address above.  You will need to tell us when they first showed symptoms and when they received their positive test result.

School will reopen on Tuesday 5th January 2021.

I would like to remind all parents to follow the national Covid 19 guidelines.  It is important that we all do our best to stop the virus spreading.

If you have any questions please phone school.

    Many thanks Mrs Keys
